Familiar with the author’s scholarly writings and my interest peaked by the description of the book’s content, I ordered Breaking Faith, started reading it, and couldn't put it down. The story plunged me right back into the bazaars and alleyways of Cairo and Lahore, the Middle East as I know it, where I lived and widely traveled in the 1970s and 1980s.

Every novel is autobiographical because it inevitably contains elements or aspects of the author’s life story. Though “Breaking Faith” is a work of fiction, Graham Fuller’s debut novel is clearly inspired by experiences from his prolific career: as a former vice-chair of the National Intelligence Council, as a senior political scientist specializing in policies of the Middle East and South Asia, and as a CIA officer who rose to the position of Station Chief in Kabul, Afghanistan.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Apart from being very well written all the main characters seem like real people and I felt I could really identify with them even though I haven't had similar experiences.
